Eyeshadow PMU Explained

Mastering semi-permanent eyeshadow with confidence

Semi-permanent eyeshadow builds on the shading control you developed in powder brows, then applies it to one of the most delicate areas of the face. This section covers the skills you will gain over three days at Elite Permanent Makeup and Cosmetology College, who is ready for the class, what to expect and how eye shading can set your menu apart.

Soft Shading on Lids

You will adapt your shading technique to thin, mobile eyelid skin, building color in gentle layers. Learning how lightly to work here is the core skill, since eyelids show pressure changes far more than brows do.

Selecting Wearable Shades

Students discuss how pigment colors heal on different skin tones and why softer neutrals often look most natural over time. Choosing a shade that complements eye color and undertone helps results stay flattering as they soften.

Ready for This Class

This course fits artists who already shade brows with confidence and want to move into eye work. It rewards people with a good eye for blending and the patience to work slowly and deliberately around the eyes.

Expect Careful, Slow Work

Course days focus on precise stretching, client positioning and pausing often to check symmetry. Eye work asks for calm pacing, and instructors stay close while you practice so safe habits form from the start.

Choosing the Right Clients

Not everyone is a candidate for eyelid pigment. You will learn to ask about eye conditions, recent procedures and sensitivity, and to refer clients to their eye doctor whenever you are unsure.

A Distinctive Menu Service

Eyeshadow is a more specialized service than brows or lips, which can help a studio stand out. It pairs naturally with eyeliner and lash line clients who already trust you with work around their eyes.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need a license to offer permanent eyeshadow in California?

Eyeshadow pigment counts as permanent cosmetics, which California's Safe Body Art Act treats as body art. You must be at least 18, register with the health department in the county where you work, complete bloodborne pathogens training, and renew both every year. The client must also sign an informed consent form before the procedure.

How can I practice eyeshadow after the course?

Practice blending gradients on synthetic skin, then on curved practice surfaces that mimic the lid. When you start with models, choose softer shades and lighter coverage, and review healed results carefully before adding depth.

Should I take Semi-Permanent Eyeliner too?

Pairing the two makes sense, since eyeliner and eyeshadow appointments share consultation, positioning and aftercare. Semi-Permanent Eyeliner at Elite is a five-day course, and together they give you a complete permanent eye makeup menu to offer clients.
