The Treatment

The next big thing in brows

Nano brows have gained immense popularity in the permanent make up industry and are considered the next big thing in eyebrow enhancement.

The technique has gained traction among people who want to achieve a fuller, more defined brow without relying on makeup. The popularity of Nanobrows can be attributed to its natural-looking results that can last for a long time.

Unlike traditional eyebrow tattoos, which can look blocky and unnatural, Nanobrows create fine hair-like strokes that mimic the natural texture and pattern of eyebrow hair.

Nano brows at the Elite Permanent Makeup & Cosmetology College. We are conveniently located in the Los Angeles area (Sawtelle). You can use several techniques to enhance the shape and appearance of your eyebrows. However, nano brows have proven to be a reliable procedure that allows you to achieve natural-looking eyebrows that can last long.

Nano brows vs. microblading: pros and cons

Nano brows and microblading are both popular semi-permanent procedures for creating natural-looking brows. However, they differ regarding the techniques, PMU supplies, and results. Below are the pros and cons of each eyebrow procedure to help you make an informed decision.

Pros of Nano Brows

  • The ultra-fine needles used for nano brows allow you to achieve a hyper-realistic appearance that resembles your natural eyebrows.
  • Nano brows can last up to 12 to 18 months before gradually fading, provided you prioritize proper aftercare procedures.
  • It helps you maintain a consistent eyebrow appearance and color over time.
  • Whether your skin is oily or dry, you can still get a perfect natural-looking eyebrow with nanoblading.
  • You don’t have to visit a technician for daily brow makeup; an annual touch-up is enough to maintain your eyebrow appearance.
  • Nano brows allow you to choose your preferred color, shape, and brow fullness that aligns with your personal lifestyle.
  • It is a less painful procedure that allows you to enjoy less healing time.

Cons of Nano Brows

  • Nanoblading involves using a more advanced machine and technique, but it is pretty expensive.
  • In many cases, the procedure for nano brows takes a long time because it requires high precision.
  • Depending on your skin type, you may experience temporary swelling or redness immediately after the procedure.

Pros of Microblading

  • Microblading is a suitable alternative for individuals on a budget because it is less expensive than nanobrows.
  • The microblading procedure takes less time to complete. However, it produces results that can last up to 3 years.
  • The procedure involves using a handheld tool to create hair-like strokes with special microblades to blend with your natural eyebrows seamlessly.
  • The versatility of microblading lets you control your look by customizing it to achieve your desired color, thickness, and shape.
  • With microblading, you don’t need to visit an artist daily for your eyebrow makeup.

Cons of Microblading

  • Microblading may not be suitable for someone with oily skin as it causes the applied pigment to fade quickly.
  • It sometimes requires a longer time to heal. The procedure is also more painful and less comfortable than nano brows.
  • Requires a more frequent touch-up to maintain the appealing appearance of your eyebrows.

Aftercare

Healing process and aftercare

Following the artist’s guidelines and instructions is important for achieving the best results after the nanoblading procedure. Here are some aftercare tips to help you have a fast and comfortable healing process.

  1. 01

    The first 10 days

You may experience some redness, swelling and tenderness. Your brows will look darker and bolder at first while the pigment settles. Keep the area clean and dry, and don’t pick at any scabbing.

  2. 02

    Follow-up at 4–6 weeks

Your artist assesses the healed result and perfects shape and color. This second session is crucial for natural, symmetrical brows.

  3. 03

    Long-term results

Once healed, your brows look more defined and full. With proper care, PMU brows can last 1–3 years depending on your skin type and lifestyle.

  • Your brows will appear darker immediately after the procedure. However, provided you follow the technician’s aftercare advice, they will lighten later during the healing process.
  • You should expect some swelling or redness in the treated area. However, we advise you to resist the urge to scratch the area so the healing process isn’t jeopardized.
  • After the nano brows procedure, you must maintain good personal hygiene. To prevent potential infection, touch the treated area gently and ensure your hands are very clean.
  • For at least the first ten days after the procedure, refrain from swimming or other physical activities that cause you to sweat excessively.
  • UV rays can cause the pigment applied to your skin to fade quicker than expected. Therefore, avoid too much sunlight exposure or use sunscreen whenever you step out on a sunny day.
  • Only use the recommended ointment or cream on your brows. We also advise that you avoid makeup or using skincare products. This will ensure you don’t risk getting infections.
  • Avoid harsh skincare products, especially those containing retinol or exfoliants, to prevent the pigment from fading prematurely.
  • Adhere strictly to all instructions by the technician to ensure a comfortable healing process. Also, ensure to report any unusual change you notice for tips and recommendations.
Comfort

Does it hurt?

This is one of the top questions we get: does permanent makeup hurt? The short answer is no. Clients are always pleasantly surprised to find it is not nearly as painful as they imagined, because we use a medical-grade numbing cream.

Our numbing cream combines three ingredients — lidocaine, benzocaine and tetracaine — for a very strong numbing effect. Some clients feel slightly uncomfortable with the “scratching” sensation or sound, but most are surprised by how little they feel, and some even fall asleep during their appointment.

Before

Before your appointment

  1. 01

    Confirm your appointment

Double-check the date and time of your appointment and confirm with the studio to avoid any misunderstandings. Being punctual and organized helps you start your PMU journey on the right foot.

  2. 02

    Fill out consent forms

Have all necessary consent forms filled out before your visit. This saves time during your appointment so you can focus on discussing your desired look with your artist. Please be aware that services may be filmed and used for social media marketing (an additional consent form must be signed).

  3. 03

    Avoid caffeine and alcohol

In the days leading up to your appointment, avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol. They can thin your blood and increase bleeding during the procedure.

  4. 04

    Hydrate your skin

Drink plenty of water in the days before your appointment. Well-hydrated skin holds pigment better and gives a more even color payoff.

  5. 05

    Avoid retinol products

Retinol increases skin sensitivity and thins the skin, making it more prone to bleeding. Avoid retinol on the treatment area for at least one week before your appointment.

  6. 06

    Get a good night’s sleep

Being well-rested helps you feel more comfortable during the procedure and promotes better healing afterward.

  7. 07

    Communicate clearly with your artist

Think about the look you want beforehand and be ready to share your expectations, preferences and any concerns, so you and your artist are on the same page.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

We change people’s lives.

Q 01

Does it hurt?

Answer

Not really! We use numbing cream before the procedure & if the client is in pain during the procedure, we can numb throughout the entire process.

It is not unusual for our clients to fall asleep during the procedure!

Q 02

How long does it last?

Answer

Nanobrows last anywhere from 1 1/2-3 years depending on client’s lifestyle.

Q 03

Microblading vs Nanobrows

Answer

Nanobrows and Microblading are both semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing techniques that are used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows but there are some differences between the two techniques.

Nanobrows uses a tattoo machine with a super thin needle to create the hair strokes, where Microblading is done using a blade with needles in a line formation.

Nanobrows are better for our oily skin clients because it tends to last longer than microblading, with the color staying true for a longer period of time.

Q 04

Do nano brows change color?

Answer

Your nano brows may change color over time due to factors such as pigment quality, sun exposure, and skin type. However, proper aftercare and adhering strictly to the technician’s instructions can help them maintain their original color for a longer time.

Q 05

Do nano brows need a touch-up?

Answer

Nano brows need an annual touch-up to help you maintain the appearance of your brows. You should also do an initial touch-up within 4-6 weeks after the procedure. This will ensure you get the perfect color and shape and make the hair strands on your eyebrows even.

Q 06

What happens if I get my nano brows wet?

Answer

Getting your nano brows wet after the procedure can delay healing and affect the final result. You may experience uneven fading of the pigment, making your brows undefined and unattractive. Therefore, avoiding swimming, exercising, and other activities leading to sweating is crucial.

Q 07

How long do nano brows take?

Answer

Nano brows take about 2 to 5 hours to complete and can last about 1 to 3 years. The procedure includes consultation, designing, and pigment application to give you a satisfactory result. The exact duration of the process depends on the artist’s technique and the complexity of the shape you want.
