PMU needles explained

_________________________________

Permanent makeup (PMU) cartridges are pre-sterilized, single-use needle configurations that attach to a PMU machine. PMU cartridges are used to deposit pigment into the skin for procedures like eyeliner, lip blush, and eyebrows. Unlike traditional tattoo needles, PMU needles are much finer to create delicate lines and details on the face. They come in various configurations, such as round for precise lines or flat for shading, and sizes to impact pigment saturation and stroke thickness. Choosing the right needle is crucial for achieving the desired permanent makeup effect.

When it comes to achieving perfect, natural-looking eyebrows with permanent makeup (PMU), the right needles are essential. Elite PMU Shop offers a wide variety of PMU cartridges to meet your specific needs.  For creating hair-like strokes, opt for round liners in sizes like 1RL or 3RL. These needles deliver precise lines ideal for detailed work. For fuller brows or shading, consider flat needles like 5F or 7F, which deposit more pigment at once. Remember, selecting the right needle size is crucial for optimal results. Consult with a licensed PMU professional to determine the perfect fit for your technique and desired eyebrow style.

Explore Elite PMU Shop’s extensive selection of PMU cartridges and find the needles that will help you create flawless brows!

What cartridges are best for lip blush?

_________________________________

The ideal cartridge for lip blush depends on the desired outcome. For a soft, blended look, consider round shaders like the 3RS or 5RS. These distribute pigment gently and are suitable for clients with sensitive skin or those seeking a natural enhancement. For bolder lip definition, a 3RL or 5RL cartridge might be a better choice. These create precise lines and can be used for outlining the lips or creating a crisp cupid’s bow. When choosing a size, remember that a smaller needle diameter (like .30mm) deposits less pigment per pass, leading to a more subtle result. Achieve fuller-looking lips or camouflage scars with a larger diameter needle (like .35mm). For top-tier PMU cartridges designed for delicate lip blushing, visit the Elite PMU Shop. Our extensive selection ensures you’ll find the perfect fit for your client’s needs.

How to choose a needle cartridge

Choosing the right needle cartridge is crucial for achieving perfect results in permanent makeup. Elite PMU Shop offers a premium selection of cartridges designed to give you optimal control and precision. When selecting your cartridges, consider the type of procedure (eyeliner, lips, brows), desired outcome (fine lines, shading, crisp edges), and your client’s skin type. Elite PMU Shop’s cartridges cater to all these needs, ensuring you have the perfect tool for every permanent makeup application.

Tips for Makeup Artists: Achieve Natural-Looking Eyebrows With PMU Cartridges

_________________________________

The following tips can help you achieve great eyebrows for your clients using makeup cartridges.

  • Communicate With Your Client
To provide excellent service, you must understand your client’s preferences and expectations. Ask them what kind of eyebrow shape or thickness they want. This will also tell you the specific cartridge and needle you need to use to give them a perfect eyebrow.
  • Remain Patient and Focus
Although makeup cartridges help with precision, you must remain patient and focused to create natural-looking eyebrows for clients. You don’t have to rush the process since every detail is vital to achieving great results. Also, ensure that your client is very comfortable throughout the makeup session.
  • Get the Right Needle Configuration
Finer needles with tapered points are great for achieving natural-looking brows. However, the perfect needle configuration minimizes skin trauma and enhances the eyebrows’ realism. Our makeup cartridges come in various configurations to let you create texture and depth for a natural gradient effect.
Different needle sizes in PMU cartridges
  • Choose the Right Pigment
When choosing color pigments for your client, look at their skin tone and hair color to know the shade that complements them seamlessly. You can also factor in their preferences if the result is still lovely. We recommend pigments with softer or lighter shades for a more natural appearance.
  • Follow Aftercare Instructions
We provide proper PMU aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing and long-lasting results. You can buy our skincare products to help maintain your skin. We also advise that you avoid sun exposure and strenuous activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

_________________________________

How to read PMU needles?

To read PMU needles, start by identifying the needle type and its scale. Align the needle tip with the desired marking on the scale, considering the angle for proper pigment depth. Practice and seek guidance from a professional for optimal results.

_________________________________

Which needle is best for ombre brows?

The best needle for ombre brows typically depends on the desired effect and the artist’s preference.

However, nano needles are often favored due to their ability to create a more subtle, shaded effect that mimics the appearance of naturally filled-in brows. They are smaller and more delicate than other needle types, allowing for finer lines and a more gradual transition between colors.

Ultimately, the best needle choice will depend on the specific technique and desired outcome. Consulting with a skilled PMU artist can help you determine the most suitable needle for your ombre brow treatment.

_________________________________

What is the difference between 1RL and 3RL tattoo needles?

1RL and 3RL tattoo needles differ in their configuration:

  • 1RL: This needle has a single round tip, making it ideal for fine lines and delicate details. It’s often used for shading and outlining.
  • 3RL: This needle has three round tips arranged in a line. It’s designed for filling in larger areas with a solid color, creating a more textured appearance.

Essentially, 1RL is better suited for precision and detail, while 3RL is more efficient for covering larger areas with a consistent color.

_________________________________

What is a 3RL good for?

A 3RL PMU needle is best suited for:

  • Microblading: Creating fine, hair-like strokes that mimic natural eyebrows.
  • Soft shading: Achieving a subtle, diffused effect for eyeliner or lips.
  • Ombre brows: Gradually transitioning from a lighter to a darker shade for a more natural look.

It’s important to note that needle choice can vary depending on the desired outcome, individual preferences, and the artist’s expertise.

_________________________________

What needle depth for microshading?

The ideal needle depth for microshading typically ranges from 0.25mm to 0.35mm. This depth allows for precise pigment placement and creates a soft, shaded effect. However, individual needs and skin conditions may vary, so it’s important to consult with a qualified PMU artist for personalized recommendations.

Essential Tools and Techniques for Fine Line Tattooing

Fine line tattoos need precision and skill. We’ll look at the key elements for these delicate designs. From choosing needles to ink, mastering these techniques is key for beautiful tiny tattoos.

Selecting the Right Needles for Delicate Work

Choosing the right needle is crucial for fine line tattoos. For these, thin needles like 3RL to 7RL are often used. They help artists create detailed and sharp lines. Try different sizes to find what works best for you.

Mastering Single Needle Tattooing

Single needle tattooing is central to fine line work. It requires a steady hand and careful control. To get better, start with simple designs and slowly move to more complex ones.

  • Maintain consistent pressure
  • Work at a slower pace for precision
  • Keep your hand relaxed to avoid shaky lines

Ink Selection for Crisp, Long-Lasting Lines

The right ink is crucial for fine line tattoos. Choose high-quality, pigment-rich inks that flow well. Black ink is great for crisp lines, but try colored inks for more depth. The right ink keeps your tattoos sharp and bright for years.

Designing Tiny Tattoos: From Concept to Stencil

We enjoy the creative process of designing tiny tattoos. It begins with brainstorming ideas that fit in small spaces. Think simple symbols, delicate linework, or small versions of larger concepts. Our artists sketch these ideas, making them simple yet meaningful.

Then, we refine the design for tiny tattoos. This means making complex elements simple and ensuring the lines are clear. We think about how the tattoo will look in the future, avoiding details that might fade. Our aim is to make a tattoo that lasts and looks great.

After perfecting the design, we make a stencil. This step is key to putting the tattoo on your skin right. For tiny tattoos, being precise is crucial. We use special tools to make stencils that show every detail of the design.

There are many artistic styles for tiny tattoos. Some favorites include:

  • Minimalist line drawings
  • Micro-realism
  • Geometric shapes
  • Tiny watercolor splashes

Each style adds its own charm to small tattoos. We help you pick the best style for your design, making sure it looks great on your skin. Remember, even a small tattoo can make a big impact when designed with care and skill.

Scalp Micro-pigmentation is a form of semi-permanent makeup used to restore the look of hair on someone who is experiencing hair loss.

HOW IS IT DONE?

Scalp Micro-pigmentation is performed similarly to other types of permanent makeup; with a needle that vibrates at a high speed with pigment on it. The needle is rotating at such a high speed that it mimics the look of each hair follicle when implanting the pigment into the scalp.

When the needle is vibrating, it gets implanted into the same skin layer that hair follicles are formed resulting in a very natural look. This procedure will last 3-6 years and the client will just have to get the treatment touched up and they will be good again for another 3-6 years. Since this procedure lasts a long time, the cost for this procedure is very high compared to other forms of permanent makeup. A scalp procedure ranges anywhere from $2,000 to $4,500 which is a very profitable technique to perform.

HOW DO I LEARN SCALP MICRO-PIGMENTATION?

We have world-renowned scalp micro-pigmentation training here at Elite. There are many mistakes that can be made when performing this technique and since it is on someone’s head, you don’t want to make those beginner mistakes. In our training, we teach all of our students the proper way to perform this technique and what mistakes to avoid.

“We have a 5-day scalp micro-pigmentation training course available year-round.  This training will come included with the exact machine and products our professional team uses! You can book your training.

This is one of the top questions we get here at Elite Permanent Makeup, “does permanent makeup hurt?” The short answer is, no and here’s why.

All of the clients that come to us are always pleasantly surprised to find that permanent makeup is not nearly as painful as they imagined. This is because we use a medical grade numbing cream so you won’t feel a thing

Our numbing cream consists of three magic ingredients: Lidocaine, Benzocaine, and Tetracaine. A combination of these three results in a very strong numbing cream which leads to a pleasant experience whether you are getting microblading, lip tinting, or another one of our awesome services!

With all that being said, some clients will feel slightly uncomfortable when getting microblading or a similar procedure done due to the “scratching” sensation.

When getting microblading, a tool called a “microblade” is used to make a small incision into your skin with a colored pigment. The process of microblading tends to have a weird scratching sound that is uncomfortable to some. It gives you the same feeling of nails scratching across a chalkboard.

Overall, permanent makeup and microblading is a very painless procedure if the right numbing cream is used. There might be some uncomfortable sounds involved, but you will be pleasantly surprised about how little you feel. Some clients of ours even fall asleep when getting permanent makeup done.

The microblading industry has exploded over the recent years, and although this is great for the industry, it came with lots of inexperienced and unlicensed microblading artists starting to train beginners.

By far the best way to train is to take our courses in person with our reputable and experienced artists and instructors. For those who are not able to travel to Los Angeles or maybe prefer to work at their own pace, we designed and launched our online microblading training.

Microblading is a skill that is learned through practice and repetition. It is just like any other skill, the more you practice, the better you get. With our online class, we provide all our students with a kit full of all the supplies they will need to work on their first clients as well as practice material to perfect their technique. It also comes with many detailed videos of each step of the microblading process as well as full-length live procedure videos.

You will be able to absorb all the knowledge of our top artists and instructors who perform microblading on a daily basis. Our online class instructors see about 4-6 clients every single day, so they have a lot of key information to share. In our online course, you will be able to attain far more knowledge than any form of training with an inexperienced artist.

What Is Included In The Online Microblading Training?

We compiled all the lessons from our in-person training course and filmed them so you can learn microblading anywhere, anytime. We also included detailed explanations of each step of the microblading process.

You will also receive a kit with the supplies you will need to practice with as well as use on clients! This kit includes microblades, pigment, mapping material, and fake skin.

You will have access to the online course for up to 1 year so you can work at your own pace or refresh your skills at any time.

Will I Be In Contact With An Instructor Once The Course Is Completed?

Yes, you will be in direct contact with our elite instructors weekly as well as upon completion. This is beneficial if you have any questions during or after your training.

For most states, California included, you do not need any formal type of license such as an esthetician or cosmetology license in order to perform microblading. Although this is the case, you will need to be registered with your county as a body art practitioner to legally perform these services which is what we will cover in depth.

BODY ART PRACTITIONER

If you wish to pursue a career in microblading/permanent makeup, you must be registered with your local health department as a body art practitioner in order to legally work on clients. If you work on anybody in a county that you are not registered in, it is considered illegal.

How do I get registered?

Each county has specific requirements, but for each, you will need to complete a blood-borne pathogens certificate specific to the county you will be registering in. We recommend all of our students to get their blood-borne certificate from online.elitepmu.com as it is the most user-friendly. Below is the complete list of all the items you will need to get registered as a body art practitioner.

  • Blood Borne Pathogens Certificate
  • Government ID
  • 2×2 Passport Photo
  • Hepatitis B Vaccinations (or can just sign off on a declination form which is usually found on the health department website)
  • Annual Registration Fee

What does the blood borne pathogens certificate look like?

Once you complete your online blood borne pathogens training, you will receive a certificate that looks like this. Keep in mind that if you are registering as a body art practitioner, your blood borne’s county must match.

What does the body art certificate look like?

Once you apply as a body art practitioner, you will receive a certificate that looks like this.

What If I will be working in multiple counties?

If you will be working in multiple counties, you must be registered as a body art practitioner in each county. Although, if are registered in one of the counties in california, you will be covered under all other california counties for 15 days.

Even with the rapid growth of the permanent makeup industry, many don’t know just how lucrative this career path can be.

The cost of microblading ranges from about $600-$900 depending on the location and experience of the technician. With that being said, each procedure takes about 2 hours which equates to $300-$450 per hour.

Microblading popularity is still steadily on the rise, as you can see by the chart below showing the number of google searches for “microblading”.

Below we will break down exactly how much it is going to cost to become a microblading artist and how much you could potentially be making.

The average price to get trained in microblading is about $3,000 for a hands-on course and $1,200 for an online course. Although this may seem like a lot to pay upfront, it pales in compared to what you will be making.

After being trained, we suggest doing a couple of procedures for free to build up your portfolio. This will give you some content to make any future potential clients feel comfortable about choosing you.

Below we made a breakdown of the cost vs revenue when doing 75 clients. If you are doing 2 clients a day, this can be done in about 37 days.

Revenue for 75 Microblading Clients = $26,000:

  • $0 (First 5 clients Free to Build Portfolio)
  • $500 (Next 5 clients charging $100 each)
  • $750 (Next 5 clients charging $150 each)
  • $1,000 (Next 5 clients charging $200 each)
  • $1,250 (Next 5 clients charging $250 each)
  • $1,500 (Next 5 clients charging $300 each)
  • $1,750 (Next 5 clients charging $350 each)
  • $2,000 (Next 5 clients charging $400 each)
  • $2,250 (Next 5 clients charging $450 each)
  • $15,000 (Next 30 clients charging $500 each)

Keep in mind this is only if you are doing 2 clients per day. The more clients you do, the more walking advertisements you have which will then lead to you getting more booked up. After 1-2 years doing microblading full time, you should be averaging 4-5 clients per day while charging $700 each. At that pace, you will be making $84,000 per month.
If you even have a slight itch to pursue a career in the beauty industry, we suggest giving microblading a try!

Are you ready to get your eyebrows microbladed? You’ve come to the right place! We will break down the cost of the initial procedure and how much it will cost to maintain them.

The main distinguishing factor in the price of microblading is the experience of your artist. Microblading in highly populated cities will have slightly higher prices than in other less populated cities. With that being said, microblading can cost anywhere from $400-$1400 for a high-quality procedure.

Microblading maintenance is crucial. It is very important to take maintenance and touch-ups into consideration because you will be coming in annually (depending on your skin type) to get them touched up and look fresh again. Usually, the charge for an annual touch-up is less than the initial procedure. For example, if someone charges $750 for microblading, the annual touch-up price should be about

Now let’s talk about the cost of microblading maintenance. This is a very important thing to note because you will be coming in around every year (depends on your skin type) to get them touched up and look fresh again. Usually the charge for an annual touch up is 50-60% of the original appointment price. For example, if someone charges $700 for microblading, the annual touch up price should be about $400.

Now let’s take a look at the total charges of microblading after 2 years (original + maintenance). For this, we will use the cost of our microblading procedure as the example. The original cost of microblading is $700 and annual touch ups are $400, although we do give all of our clients a free touch up after 4-6 weeks from their original appointment. So, the total cost for 2 years would be $700 + $400 + $400, which comes out to $1,500. Although this may seem like a lot for 2 years, it really is worth it. If you bought a $4 coffee every day for 2 years, it would cost you $2,920. So, what’s more worth the money, coffee or brows?

Microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup for your eyebrows that create a very natural hair-like look with a tool called a microblade. A microblade is a handheld tool with very small and fine needles on the end. It is used to create strokes in the eyebrow area where pigment is then inserted, to simulate real eyebrow hairs.

Microblading can last about 1-2 years depending on your skin type and lifestyle.

Many artists do not use the correct pigment which may result in microbladed eyebrows that turn different colors. We use high-quality vegan pigments so our colors won’t turn to another color, but slowly fade over time until you come in for a touch-up appointment.

With Microblading, it will usually take 2 appointments for you to see the final results. After the first appointment, your artist will have to see how your skin reacted to the procedure and then adjust their approach to your touch-up appointment. In between your first appointment and your touch-up, your brows will be healing, so they will look a little odd for those first few days until you get them touched up. Trust the process!

When it comes to skin and pigment, it is either like a sponge, or a cement wall; your skin will either accept the pigment or completely reject it. It is crucial for you to come to your complimentary follow-up appointment for you to see the final results of beautiful and natural microblading.

The most important thing that goes into a successful microblading/permanent makeup procedure is how well the client follows the aftercare procedure. You want to make sure to keep the area moist with Aquaphor, all day long 24/7 for at least 10 days. This will allow the color to set in and avoid oxygen from hitting your brows and changing the color while it is setting in.

DO NOT WASH THE PROCEDURE FOR 24-48 HOURS!

Avoid for 10 days: Makeup (on procedure area), Extreme Sweating, Swimming, Tanning, Hot Sauna, and Laser/Chemical/Botox Treatments.

Aquaphor Is Your Best Friend

-Use a cotton swab to apply Aquaphor Ointment throughout the day for 2-4 weeks (the area should never be dry).

-For the first 4 hours after the procedure, pat the procedure area with a paper towel every 30 minutes to remove excess blood/fluid.

-Do not touch the procedure are with your fingers as they may have bacteria on them and create an infection.

-We suggest Aquaphor because it tends to not cause inflammation, but if you are allergic, Vaseline will do just fine.

-Always use a “total sun block” sunscreen until the area has fully healed to prevent future fading of pigment color.

-Do not use products that contain AHA’s on the procedure area as they will fade the color (Example: Glycolic, Lactic Acids)

Additional Instructions For Lips

-Ice your lips every 30 minutes on the day of the procedure to prevent bruising & swelling.

-Avoid for 1 day: tooth paste and hot foods.

-Avoid for 3 days: teeth whiteners, spicy food/drinks, lemon, salt, and vinegar. Use a straw for the following: coffee, wine, and any drinks that will stain. Wear a hat to shield the area from the sun when you go outside.Additional Instructions For Eyeliner

-Ice your eyes every 30 minutes on the day of the procedure to prevent bruising & swelling.

-For 2 weeks: No eyelash tinting, perming, or extensions.
